Immerse yourself in an inspiring studio environment surrounded by pine-forested mountain slopes, within an easy reach of the sea near Marathon and the museums and Acropolis of Athens! The new world art workshop at the IRIS ART CENTRE offers you a unique opportunity to make art and discover new trails in the development of your own artistic expression. You will be introduced to world art cultures, and to the ways that age-old religious beliefs are expressed in art in a great diversity of cultures. This workshop is meant for people who are open to new impressions and new ideas, and who are willing to research how they can express their own cultural and spiritual beliefs with clay, paint, collage, and weaving.
Dates summer 2016: 7 - 14 May & 14 - 21 May
Location: IRIS ART CENTRE (near Athens), full board workshop.
During this intensive art workshop you will be taken on a journey along cultures from all over the world. Every day will start with a lecture/power point presentation on the artistic expression of one of the world cultures, followed by your own artistic apprenticeship in the techniques of the particular tradition, to the end of inventing your own symbols, motifs, and designs. The supportive syllabus will help you to embed the newly learned information. Techniques and concepts will be demonstrated. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know maskmaking and weaving in Africa, landscape painting in Australia, colored paper torn collages and inkpainting in Japan, and mandala's in the Hindu and Buddhist tradition in India and Tibet. This program is very well suited for artists of all levels; for beginners, established artists and also art educators because of the many ideas and connections it offers that can be used in the classroom.
